| Pembroke Ezine Week 17Last week
Well done to the 1st XI on Saturday last as they had a good win against in a friendly against Old Belvedere at Sydney Parade. A very good and steady 69* for Ben de Vos as he works to get accustomed to the Irish April wickets and a "hat trick" by Emmet Whaley to wrap up the Old Belvedere tail - well done to both. The scores were as follows
Pembroke 177-9 off 45 overs Ben de Vos 69* Emmet Whaley 18. Old Belvedere 130 all out A Eastwood 3-20 E Whaley 3-10 P Byrne 3-34 B de Vos 1-16 The 6th XI played Pembrokes first league match of the season under the captaincy of Niall Walsh. Unfortunately Bagnelstown proved to be a bit strong for Pembroke and won convincingly by 94 runs - only the start of the season lads. The scores were as follows: Bagnelstown 172-6 N Walsh 3-17 B McCarthy 2-38 J Doherty 1-39 Pembroke 78 all out D Clissman 19 B McCarthy 13 J Doherty 11 M Holland 10. News at present I am sure you have received notice of the death of Peter Ash. Peter was well known to many in Pembroke and he will be missed supporting all sides in Pembroke. I remember having many long conversations with Peter as he always sat on the railway side of the ground and he always had a seat beside him for those who stopped to have conversation - his cries of "Shooooooootttttt!" will always be very clear in my mind. His funeral takes place in the Pepper Cannister Church on Mount St Crescent on Saturday morning at 11am. Andrew Leonard has won a qualifiers entry into the World Series of Poker to be held in La Vegas between the 6th and 17th July. He is currently down under under and has established contact with young Ciaran Sharp. His is palying some cricket in a club near Sydney. We wish him well for the competition. Well done to David Cox who completed the London Marathon over the weekend - his finishing time was 4 hours and 49 mins - I am sure he will tell us more when he is home. You will have received today an email from Craig Senior regarding subs - please get signed up and get your subs in early as "Cashflow" is crucial to the club and remember the quicker we can get your subs in the more the club can do in all aspects of Pembroke. Please speak with your Captain, Steve McCarthy or Craig Senior The Week ahead This Friday evening sees The Ladies 1st XI playing a friendly against the Mens 6th XI at Sydney Parade - all support is welcome - and the bar will be open. On Saturday the 2nd XI take on Railway at Sydney Parade and on Sunday the 1st XI take on Clontarf at home in the Dublin Grass Machinery League. The 3rd XI under the captaincy of Ricky Mann take a team up to the Phoenix Park to play Phoenix in their opening league match in Middle A and the 6th XI are away to Dundrum. On Wednesday the 2nd May next the Ladies 1st XI have a friendly match against YMCA in Sydney Parade. Monkstown FC will be holding a BBQ and Social on Sunday afternoon next from 4pm onwards.
