| Monkstown FC's proposed merger with Lansdowne FCUpdate provided by Jonathan Bell As you are probably aware at this stage our partners in Sydney Parade Monkstown FC are balloting for a proposed merger with Lansdowne FC on Wednesday 28th March in the Tara Towers Hotel. You are probably also aware that we have over the years worked very hard to keep ahead of our financial commitments and this continues to be top of the clubs agenda, so that we can work towards providing excellent cricketing facilities for our membership both on and off the field. However, you may not be aware that a Joint Development Committee with Monkstown FC was formed a few years ago to look at how the asset of Sydney Parade can utilised to elevate the financial pressure that both clubs are facing. With this in mind architects plans were drawn up to re-develop Sydney Parade that include complete new pavilion facilities, one cricket pitch, one rugby pitch and the option to dispose of a small part of Sydney Parade if necessary. Following the presentation in the Tara Towers Hotel on Wednesday 7th March 2007 which outlined the details of the proposed merger between Monkstown FC and Lansdowne FC - Pembroke's executive committee have significant reservations about the impact of the proposed merger on a number of levels. The merger proposals as they stand are also considered to be incompatible with Pembroke's preferred development plan for Sydney Parade.
