Jonny Bell

Name: Jonathan 'Jonny' Bell
Nickname: Buzzer, JB, Beller, Piggy (that's an old that Bill Dwyer still calls me)
Year joined Pembroke: 1979
Highest team played on: 1st XI
Best captain played under: Dave "Demo" Keenan - 3rd XI
Whats the one thing you do if you we're president for life: For a start I am glad you put in the word "if"! - however if I was President for life, I would implement a large salary with comprehensive retirement benefits!!
Favourite Tipple: Good old pint of Guinness
Highest Score in a match: 112* - 4th XI v Leinster - July 2000
Best Bowling figures: 7-47 - 3rd XI v Nth Kildare - 1997
Best cricketing memory: When we set a target of 309 v Mullingar in 2003 on the 4th XI and we chased it with a ball to spare - it was an believable chase with Webby scoring a brilliant 103. - it kept the Sunday evening crowds in the ground and the late Harry Hill told me it was one of the greatest run chases he had seen.
Also if I may - the other great memory was Billy Dwyer's catch in the gully v Knockbrack in the Intermeadiate Cup Quarter Final in 1983 - "an incredible catch" which I'm sure if you ask Billy he will tell you all about it!!
Worst cricketing moment: Being hammered in the Whelan Cup final in 1996 against Knockbrack!
Funniest cricketing moment: While it wasn't funny at the time - it was when Michael Byers was captain of the 4th XI in 1990 - and we were playing in the Intermediate Cup Final against Nth Kildare in Rush. We were set a target of 122 and Michael told us that we had go out for 20 minutes before tea and let's keep our wickets in tact as we had plenty of time after tea to chase this relatively low total. At tea, we were 11 for 7 and we sat at tea in silence and eventually someone said something and we all started to laugh at the situation!!
Favourite innings: When I scored 46 in the Intermeadiate Cup Final for Pembroke 4ths v Pembroke 3rd XI in August 1983 - we were chasing 201-5 and we were 110-3 with 20 overs to go.
Favourite international cricketer: Sir Viv Richards and more recently Matthew Hayden
Best teas in Ireland: Clontarf - that is apart from ours
Favourite ground: Leinster CC and Carlisle CC (I'm showing my age there!!)
Toys out of the pram award: Having played for many years with him it has to be LP Hoffman - although I do remember Colin Dempsey having an incident that I had to get involved with when I was captain of the 3rd XI
A short summary of me as a player: A relatively consistent junior level cricketer - would loved to have played more cricket at senior level, however have thoroughly enjoyed watching players achieving their potential at all levels of the game!!
