Geraldine Banks

Name: Geraldine Banks
Nickname:
None

Year joined Pembroke: 1979
Highest team played on: Ladies 1st XI
Best captain played under: It would inappropriate to choose !
Whats the one thing you do if you we're president for life: Of Club or Country ?? - if the Club then - make better use of the facilities over a 12 month year (and yes, this would involve cooperating with Monkstown !)
Cricket Ambition: Achieved by scoring for the Irish Mens team over several years
Favourite Tipple: Red wine, Carlsberg, Gin & tonic
Highest Score in a match: 42 not out (twice!)
Best Bowling figures: None (I don't think I ever bowled in a match)
Best cricketing memory: Several - the men's 1st XI coming back from 52 -7 to win the cup v The Hills, the guys winning a nail biter in Rush on the last ball, scoring my first international match for Ireland in Belfast in 1996, scoring at the ICC Trophy Tournament in 2005
Worst cricketing moment: I don't remember !!! - tho' the aforesaid first International might be among them as Ireland were completely stuffed by Sussex - and we had to hang around for a second day due to rain ! In fact hanging around various pavilions in the rain is an abiding memory of many cricketing summers
Funniest cricketing moment: Playing one of my first ever cricket matches, getting bowled out for 10 (the whole team not just me !) v Leinster in Rathmines - and us all sitting on the steps outside the old pavilion afterwards laughing at the absurdity of it (I think we lost by about 100 runs !)
Favourite innings: Many spring to mind including - Peter Davy scoring a ton in Rathmines - and hitting Trent Johnston out of the ground several times, John Davy & Paul McCrum putting on 100 for the 10th wicket v MCC in Malahide, and Gordon Mellon hitting the ball to all corners of Cabra back in the late 80s
Favourite international cricketer: Jonty Rhodes - to me he epitomised the skill of fielding. On the Ireland team I admire people like Kyle McCallan or Peter Gillespie - I've seen them come through the Interprovincial ranks. I actually scored Kyle's first 100 for Ireland. I also think Trent Johnston has been a fantastic captain
Best teas in Ireland: Clontarf or Leinster (tho the sausages & beans in Donemana were quite good !) - and at the moment (take a bow Becca)
Favourite ground: Pembroke and Clontarf
Toys out of the pram award: You don't have enough room !
A short summary of me as a player:

Could bat a bit, couldn't bowl, reasonable fielder. Definitely much better with a pen in my hand than a bat or a ball!
