Ben de Voss

Name: Ben de Voss
Nickname:
Boss

Year joined Pembroke: 2007
Highest team played on: 1st XI
Best captain played under: Wayne Thackrah (St Mary's, Western Australia)
Whats the one thing you do if you we're president for life: Probably add a third day to the weekend!
Cricket Ambition: I've been fortunate enough to score at least two hundreds for every club in every country I've played (8 clubs thus far). I'd like to continue that this year. I have fulfilled many cricketing dreams and goals 'till now, but I hope to assist in getting Pembroke promoted this season. As an ambition overall, I'd like to get every kid every possible opportunity to reach his/her full cricketing potential possible in order to reach his/her dreams and goals. Most of all, I'd like to see the game being played in the right spirit and be enjoyable for everyone
Favourite Tipple: Prefer a soft drink (non-alcohol) Otherwise it very much depends on the weather - whisky on a coldday (seems to be the case all the time over here, lol) though the odd Guiness has gone down well too. A cold beer after a long innings under the hot sun is what I miss most I guess
Highest Score in a match: 149 (x2)
Best Bowling figures: 7/13
Best cricketing memory: Taking a hat-trick in my first ever match, 1st over of the match. Taking hat-trick and scoring 136 in the same match in Gloucestershire. Scoring three consecutive not out centuries that same year, and two consecutive centuries and a 99 the following year. A century for the MCC and against WA U/19. A century in my last game in Australia on the day of Sir Donald Bradman's funeral. Captaining and being part of scoring 483/3 in 50 overs - see www.kougacc.com (scorecard of 11 Feb 06)
Worst cricketing moment: Scoring a duck on my league debut for Pembroke as well as my first game in Australia
Funniest cricketing moment: Guess I have to go back to when I was a kid, Rod Bunting (Ex-Sussex bowler, probably around 6ft 8) was our overseas. As he started his run-up in his first match for us his spike got hooked to his jumper at the back and you can only imagine the sight as the big man tumbled over. We also had a guy who came in to bat with the thigh pad on his wrong leg. Probably the funniest thing I ever got myself involved in was striding out to middle (thankfully realised as I was about to leave the dressing room) that I was fully kitted out, helmet, gloves, but no pads! Guess that's taking focussing on the job out in the middle to a new level!
Favourite innings: Probably watching Pierre Puren from the non striker's end blast 281 in 39 overs
Favourite international cricketer: Adam Gilchrist, Brett Lee & Boeta Dippenaar
Best teas in Ireland: It will have to be the "Broke"!
Favourite ground: Newlands & St George's Park
Toys out of the pram award: Steve (Red) O' Dare from England. He used to take his cap, chuck it on the ground and jump on it whenever he got taken off or a catch got put down. Locally, too early to say, but maybe Allan against Railway - mind you I gave him a good run for his money there, lol!
A short summary of me as a player:

Left hand All-rounder. Likes to hit the ball hard actually likes to hit the ball hard when Emmo bowls! Medium pace bowler. Don't really know much else!
